Goddard Middle School is the second largest of the four middle schools in the Littleton Public School District, serves nearly 820 students and includes a staff of eighty. Many of our staff members are State Teachers of the Year and have been selected to be included in Who's Who in Among America's Teachers.
Our goals are to prepare students for an ever-changing world, to support the development of confident and caring young people and to model life-long learning. The school is composed of three neighborhoods with teams of Core teachers. Core and elective teachers integrate learning within the neighborhood during the student's three years at Goddard Middle School. Students have numerous opportunities for meaningful learning experiences, to develop self-respect and responsibility, to think critically, and to be assessed in multiple ways.

Food Service Price Increase
|
 |
|
 |
 |
School Meal prices to increase effective March 1, 2012
First price increase in seven years
The Littleton Public Schools Food Service program must increase the price of breakfast and lunch due to federal pricing requirements. The price of breakfast will increase 5 cents, and the price of lunch will increase 15 cents, which represents a four percent increase for breakfast and a six percent increase for lunch.
This is the first price increase in seven years despite the fact that the price of groceries has increased about 15 percent in the same seven-year period. “We commend our food services enterprise for keeping costs low and for delaying a price increase for so many years,” said Littleton Public Schools Chief Financial Officer Scott Myers. “This cost increase represents the district’s best effort to make the mandatory price increase while remaining sensitive to the needs of parents and families.” 1.1 million meals are served each year in LPS schools.
The LPS Board of Education approved the increase during the January 12, 2012 Board of Education meeting. As of March 1, 2012, the new prices will be in effect:
| Middle School Breakfast |
$1.25 currently |
$1.30 new price |
4% increase |
| Middle School Lunch |
$2.50 currently |
$2.65 new price |
6% increase |

Welcome to Goddard Middle School
|
 |
|
 |
 |
Dear Students, Parents, and Guardians:
Welcome to the Goddard website. I encourage you to a few minutes to explore our site and familiarize yourself with all the information available. I also hope you will get of sense of what makes Goddard a great place for students to learn and grow.
The 2011-2012 school year marks my seventeenth year in Littleton Public Schools. I am delighted to be the principal of Goddard Middle School and I am looking forward to a terrific year for students, staff, and parents. I began my LPS career as a sixth grade math and science teacher at Goddard. Six years in the classroom were followed by five years as an assistant principal at Goddard. I spent three wonderful years at the elementary level as principal of Wilder, an LPS school that feeds into Goddard. I returned to Goddard as principal in August 2009.
The start of every new school year is a welcome back with the promise and energy of new and returning students, families, and staff. As principal, I will partner with staff, parents, and community members to continue to work diligently on five key goals:
- To promote academic rigor and continuous growth in student achievement;
- To support excellence in special instructional programs, including English as a Second Language, Gifted and Talented Education, Special Education, Reading, and Technology;
- To improve communications with parents and our community;
- To improve the appearance and physical condition of our school building and campus;
- To continue to provide a safe school environment.
These goals provide the foundation for a first-rate school and will keep Goddard moving in a positive direction.
Each year brings new learning for students and staff as well as new initiatives and programs. Below are some of the new items for 2011-2012 school year:
· We have added an instructional period for all students. Extended Learning Opportunities (ELO) is new for the 2011-2012 school year. During the first period of the day every student will have an intervention or enrichment class. Sixth grade students will begin the year with a unit designed to help them transition to middle school. Seventh and Eighth grades students will have access to math and reading intervention classes as well as science and social studies extensions. There is even a leadership class in the works for seventh grade students. Positive Behavior Intervention Support, Health, and Life Skills lessons will also taught during ELO. Read the GMS newsletter throughout the year for updates on ELO.
- Fast ForWord and Reading Assistant are research based programs designed to accelerate learning. Students using these products show solid growth in reading and are better prepared to absorb and retain curriculum in all content areas. Goddard is thrilled to have an entire computer lab and a full time staff member dedicated to Fast ForWord. These products from Scientific Learning will be part of the instructional program for struggling readers, students with special education needs and second language learners.
· At Goddard we work diligently to create a meaningful, engaging, and well-rounded middle school program. Many of our students participate in clubs, activities, and athletics. Last year, assistant principal Travis Amonson and some of our most energetic students decided it was time to work on school spirit as part of our Positive Behavior Intervention Support program. One thing led to another and we found ourselves looking for an athletic logo for the Goddard Vikings. Michelle Kastner, a Goddard parent, and very talented graphic designer, worked with us not only to create an athletic logo but to also create an updated rocket logo. We are so very excited to introduce our new logos. We are proud to be named after Robert Goddard who created and developed the first liquid-fueled rocket. Our Viking name comes from the Viking rocket series, developed through a partnership with the U. S. Navy and a company that would come to be known as Lockheed-Martin. The Viking rockets were possible because of the work of Robert Goddard, one of the founding fathers of modern rocketry. I encourage you to check out the link on the Goddard homepage to learn more about Robert Goddard. Go Vikings!
We are pleased to continue our focus on the following during the 2011-2012 school year:
· First and foremost is student achievement. Our School Improvement Plan, now know as the Unified Improvement Plan, maintains a focus on writing. Teachers continue to work diligently in their Professional Learning Communities to design lessons and analyze student writing data. All of our language arts classrooms are part of the Inspired Writing Project. These efforts are paying off as we saw an 8% gain in student growth in writing on the 2010 CSAP. On the 2011 CSAP our Median Growth exceeded our Median Adequate Growth.
· We continue to value and appreciate the strong home and school connection. Once again we will partner with PTO to raise funds to support a well-rounded, engaging, and fun middle school experience. From technology, to the fall festival, to student recognition, PTO dollars make a real difference.
- The “Positive Behavior Intervention Support” (PBIS) program will continue to guide our efforts to promote positive, responsible, and respectful student behavior and build a welcoming school climate. Respect will continue to be our PBIS focus during the 2011-2012 school year. Goddard students and staff are PR2 and proud of it!
- Our teachers will continue to work together in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) to improve instruction and increase student achievement. Thank you for supporting the late-start schedule to support our PLC work. PLC teams will concentrate on the change in State Standards during the 2011-2012 school year.
Thank you for all you do to support your student and Goddard Middle School.

Everyone needs groceries, so why not let a percentage of your grocery bill benefit Goddard Middle School (at NO extra cost to you)?
With the King Soopers Neighborhood Rewards Gift Card, Goddard receives 5% of every dollar you spend at King Soopers on groceries and even gasoline!
How does it work?
· Purchase a $25 reloadable gift card by filling out the form (available on the Goddard website and in the main office)
· You receive your gift card from Goddard PTO worth $25.00
· Once your card is empty or near empty, present your card at the register PRIOR to purchasing your groceries or visit the customer service desk.
· Ask the attendant to reload your card with any value you choose, up to $500.
· You MUST reload your card BEFORE your items are scanned. The balance remaining on your card is printed at the bottom of your grocery receipt.
Every four weeks, King Soopers runs a report of all sales associated with the Goddard gift cards and mails us a check equaling 5% of our grocery purchases. Any funds raised will go to support adding document cameras to our classrooms.
It could not be easier!!! If you already shop at King Soopers, please support our school by joining this program!

PBS turns the traditional approach to school discipline on its head in that it focuses on teaching, acknowledging and celebrating positive behavior rather than simply punishing negative behavior. In other words… “Good!”
Goddard’s own spin on the PBS approach is “program developed by students andstaff. The goal of the program is to improve behavior in “problem” areas such as school hallways, playgrounds, classrooms and the bus, Goddard students came up with a set of guidelines for what they consider to be Positive, Responsible and Respectful behavior in each area.
Goddard students are PR 2. To read more about PR 2 click here.
